Redwood Acres Raceway
Inaugural Rhody 100 Features Big Purse And Unique Format
Redwood Acres Raceway recently released the purse for the Rhododendron 100 on Saturday April 30. The 100-lap race for the late models will be the feature attraction for the season-opening event at the 3/8-mile paved oval. Along with the late models, Legends, bombers, mini stocks and roadrunners will also race in what is sure to be a big event to kick off the 2022 season.
Old Town Rotary is the presenting sponsor for the Rhododendron 100 and raceway officials hope that the stellar purse will attract late model racers throughout the region. The winner of the 100-lap race will earn $5,000. Thanks to a unique format for the event though, the winning driver could earn a total of $9,500 for their efforts.
The race will be broken into three segments. After the first 20 laps, the caution will be thrown and the leader at the time will receive $1,000. Racing will resume and at lap 50 another caution will occur with the leader earning $1,500. At that time, the driver has the option to retain their position in the lead or opt to the back of the field to try to go for a $2,000 winner’s bonus.
While every driver hopes to be in victory lane, finishing just outside if it will still pay well. The second-place finisher will earn $4,000 with $3,000 going to third place. The fourth-place driver will receive $2,000 with $1,500 going to fifth. Sixth finishing position receives $1,000 while seventh will get $750. The minimum payout to start the 100-lap race is $500.
