For the first time since 2007, Darrell Midgley will be racing at Redwood Acres Raceway. The Canadian driver was a familiar face at the Acres throughout the 90s and 00s and he will be racing in the Rhododendron 100 on Saturday April 29. Midgley last raced at Eureka’s 3/8-mile paved oval in September of 2007 in the Fall Spectacular.
While it has been a long time since Midgley has raced at Redwood Acres Raceway, the 62-year old veteran has stayed busy behind the wheel of a race car. Besides racing in Western Canada and the Northwest United States, Midgley has made numerous starts at Tucson Speedway in Arizona in the track’s premier late model races the Chilly Willy and Turkey Shoot.
Midgley will be hoping to build on the success he has already had at Redwood Acres Raceway over the years. He is a two time Fall Spectacular winner having done so in 1995 and 1998. In addition, Midgley has scored late model feature wins at RAR in the Nor-Cal Best In The West Series and the North State Challenge Series.
Tickets for the Rhododendron 100 are $10 and can be purchased at Automasters in Eureka, Don’s Rent-All in Eureka, McKinleyville Barbershop and JC Auto in Fortuna. Tickets can also be purchased on RacinTheAcres.com or at the gate on race day. Grandstands open at 4:00 while racing will begin at 5:30. The event will also be live streamed on RacinTheAcres.tv and Speedsport.tv.
